Vancouver, BC crew A TEXTBOOK TRAGEDY are one of the most exciting and unique young bands to emerge from the transatlantic metal and hardcore circuit in recent memory. Relentlessly heavy yet sparklingly eclectic, the quintet have spent the past three years kicking up a stir in their own yard, national tours with Cancer Bats and Emmure alongside a stint on the Canadian leg of Warped Tour helping to spread word of their might across the band’s home states.
But now, thanks to a fresh deal with the UK’s United By Fate Records (Johnny Truant, Architects), October 6th will see A Textbook Tragedy’s breathtaking album Intimidator unleashed upon an unsuspecting British public. Originally released in Canada in 2007 via Distort Entertainment (Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats), Intimidator is an intense and challenging assembly that simply defies easy categorisation. Technical and aggressively complex yet laden with punishing groove and moments of soaring melody, this is a work of gloriously effective contradictions - as direct as it is subtle and as uplifting as it is apocalyptic.
Textbook’s off kilter steamroller is narrated by the triple pronged vocals of frontman Chris Bahris, guitarist Kai Turmann and bassist Bill Crook, their interplay granting the album a unique energy; meanwhile, the chaos is controlled by the percussive mastery of drummer and lead songwriter Nick Yacyshyn, who has been considered one of the best young drummers in Canada.
With a profile UK tour slated for January 2009, A Textbook Tragedy are all set to break through their national borders and take up a deserved place on the international stage. Prepare yourself.
